Damini

Damini (Meenakshi Seshadri), the virtuous daughter of an impoverished father (Anjan Srivastava) who is worried about getting his two daughters married, achieves the impossible when the millionaire Shekhar Gupta (Rishi Kapoor) falls for her. Shekhar's family, including his mother (Rohini Hattangadi) and his mother's brother (Tinnu Anand), are initially against Damini but finally accept her, until an incident disrupts the entire family.

On the day of Holi, Damini witnesses her husband's younger brother and his three friends rape a maidservant. The entire family, including her husband Shekhar, conspire to keep silent. The family, aided by a scheming lawyer (Amrish Puri)and a corrupt police force try to make her go insane. She is eventually helped by a down-and-out lawyer Govind (Sunny Deol) who defends her in court.

Damini is a 1993 classic hit directed by Rajkumar Santoshi starring Rishi Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Sunny Deol, Amrish Puri, Tinu Anand and Paresh Rawal in Pivotal roles. The story is of how a woman fights against the society for truth. The film is also memorable for Sunny Deol's heroics as an advocate and gained him Filmfare and National Award for Best actor in a supporting role for 1993. The movie strengthened the Bollywood he-man image of Sunny Deol.
