Wonderful movie with absolutely brilliant actors and very realistic settings. A must to add to anyone's DVD library. It is a typical Richard Attenborough movie with great attention to detail and accuracy similar to his excellent movie 'A Bridge To Far'.... Full review

Never make promises you can't fulfill, otherwise you'll find that nagging feeling coming back to haunt you, and it can be quite uncomfortable, unless of course it doesn't bother you as far as integrity and trustworthiness are concerned. Then again there's... Full review

The story of love lost to death during the second world war will never be tiresome for anyone whose family was touched by the war. The question is, can writers and actors still make the story real? For those of us... Full review

"Closing the Ring" is pure schmaltz, I watched it with my mother, who absolutely adored it. I, on the other hand, hated it! I'm only giving it four stars because of the rather marvellous Pete Postlethwaite, who was also the only... Full review

This film is about an old man digging up fragments of planes from World War II, thereby uncovering some heartbreaking secrets. "Closing The Ring" is probably about as unconventional as you can get, as it concentrates on the relationship among older... Full review

Richard Attenborough's 'Closing The Ring' has quite an unusual cast. I never thought I'd see Shirley MacClaine, Christopher Plummer, Neve Campbell, Pete Postlethwaite and Mischa Barton in one film. The story feels a little contrived and I thought that Attenborough... Full review

First the story it is not bad, it's just predictable and not very challenging, it seems like the author copy past some winning formula but didn't knew what to do with it.You can clearly guess the ending from 30 minutes... Full review

I'd never heard of this movie and, judging from the number of votes and comments it has received, not many other people have either - which is something of a surprise when you consider the cast and director. But then... Full review

Closing The Ring has a heartfelt and valid story to tell.....The main problem with Attenborough's film is the detachment between the characters of the past and those in the present.....Mischa Barton is lovely and vulnerable as the young Ethel Ann who has eyes only for Teddy.....Neve Campbell's performance as Marie is excellent, yet there is also something missing from her character.....Mischa Barton is a delight as the young Ethel, Stephen Amell is impossibly handsome in a 40s way as Teddy.... ... Richard Attenborough's Closing the Ring is a lifeless zombie parade of bad movie cliches A testament to the power of a great actor, but a pathetic excuse for a romantic drama, Closing the Ring won't be grasping at the brass one any time soon. ... Full Review

MacLaine gives a wonderful performance as Ethel....Closing the Ring has lovely performances from the mature cast members and somewhat less impressive work from the younger actors.....All the extraneous detail cannot obscure what is a simple and mostly dopey love story.... ... Full Review

Back in the 1990s, CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER hovers around, with stoic fortitude....The plot is extremely cumbersome.....it's never very involving thanks mainly to Shirley MacLaine's extremely gloomy performance.....And it's sort of, there is sort of like something quite miserable at the heart of the film..... ... They successfully project the inner turmoil of their characters in this melodrama which switches between 1991 and the Second World War.....grinning inanely throughout his scenes....MacLaine is particularly brilliant as recently-widowed Ethel Ann seeking to hide the truth of her war-time romances from her daughter.....Martin McCann shows true promise as the amusingly gormless Jimmy who finds Ann's dead husband's ring on a Belfast mountain.... ...
