Plus, with the fast pace of the film and the exceeding welcome 1 hour and 40 minute (approx) running time, the movie tells its story without wearing out its welcome.
While the ultimate goal, much like Julia Roberts' character points out is the opportunity to deliver religious freedom to several sects of people who were being oppressed by the Russians, is a noble one indeed, the disrespect that the Americans helping them remained.

With a powerhouse cast and a great creative team, CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR certainly doesn't let the current Iraq conflict go by without a prescient nod to it in the closing scenes.
The supporting cast is superb too, including Amy Adams in a nice turn as Wilson's assistant (who obviously as an unrequited crush on him).
