The prolific Takashi Miike's 1998 Bird People in China sets a slightly different tone than much of his over-the-top work.
While Bird People in China may ultimately prove a little slow for those who come to the director's body of work from his more gutbucket material, fans who are willing to give the filmmaker a little breathing room will find this one an engaging and rewarding experience.
