Candy (Abbie Cornish) hopes to build a career around the childish scrawls she calls paintings.
Ledger is a mischievous boy-man, a Peter Pan-like character who can explain away the most terrible things he does and hope people will look the other way.

But these struggles are not what make this a good and sometimes wonderful film.

Cornish stars as the title character, a promising art student who falls head over heels for the idealistic, would-be poet Dan (Ledger).

Candy'' is hardly a feel-good movie, but you'll leave it feeling not nearly as depressed as you might think.
For all its depiction of a descent into drug addiction, "Candy'' is filled with surprisingly sweet moments and goes down more easily than seems possible given the subject matter.
