Caffeine" is a quirky character comedy where quirky doesn't equal comedy.....Final Thoughts "Caffeine" tries to match the quirky charms of the movies that obviously inspired it....does a collection of bland deleted scenes (5:50) A set of previews, including the "Caffeine" trailer, rounds out the set.....it fits with the movie's overall look.....Here is a screenplay lacking confidence in its core characters and their ability to deliver the comedy.... ... Dishwater coffee, that is, served in an attractive vessel, for "Caffeine's" handsome cast includes Mena Suvari ("American Pie"), Katherine Heigl ("Grey's Anatomy") and British starlet Marsha Thomason ("The Haunted Mansion").....But a few London street scenes would hardly compensate for "Caffeine's" comic misfires..... ... As it is, "Caffeine" offers little more than material for the reels of its consistently pro thesps (a mostly savvy mixture of Brits and Yanks), with good scenes played well by the likable Thomason, Heigl, Suvari, Meyer and Blue. Caffeine works hard to pump up its overlapping story strands with lots of eccentric behavior, silly peccadilloes, and forced revelations, but they just undercut what little real emotion the film's jumble of urban singles actually has.
