Bridget Jones review: By me!
Bridget Jones review: By me!
i absolutely LOVE this movie. Its had me in tears of laughter. Bridget Jones, arguably the funniest film of 2001, I think you'll agree. This is a film for anyone over the age of 15, but honestly I think seeing as I'm not fifteen myself, everyone will most probably love it. But, I'll give you one piece of advice, DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT watch it with your parents or grandparents because it will lead to utter embarrassment. The Storyline- It's New Year's Day, hung over and still single, Bridget Jones- a...more

Starring Renee Zellweger, High Grant, Colin Firth, Embeth Davidtz, Gemma Jones, Jim Broadbent. "Bridget Jones, wanton sex goddess!... Finally, an adult romantic comedy done right! I could jump for joy. Bridget Jones, played here by Renee Zellweger, is your single, approaching-middle-age everywoman, complete with romantic travails, anxiety about weight and rampant self-destructive behavior. The film's opening scene has her dressed up in adorable pajamas, drinking a round of vodka and crooning Celine Dion's "All By Myself" at the camera. The romantic dilemma is Bridget's choice between her boss Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), immediately pegged as Mr. Wrong (not least because...more

Do filmmakers actually make romantic comedies anymore, or has that job actually been relegated to record producers? It certainly seems that way, since every recent example of the genre is buried in an avalanche of the latest adult contemporary music. One can't be sure if one is actually watching a movie or a two-hour advert for a soundtrack. Latest case in point: Bridget Jones's Diary. Somewhere underneath all that middle-of-the-road noise — Shelby Lynne! Sheryl Crow! The return of Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice)! — is a pleasing, if somewhat bland, adaptation of Helen Fielding's best-selling novel. Why couldn't freshman director...more

It should have been no man's land: a movie based on a best-selling post-feminist novel about a year in the life of a thirty-something Brit career girl trying to kick her addictions to food, cigarettes, booze and male fuckwads while her self-esteem issues grow massive and unwieldy, just like her thighs. Instead, Bridget Jones's Diary delivers frisky fun for bruised romantics regardless of age, sex or nationality. OK, Bridget has a weakness for sentimental hokum that the film shares. The surprise comes in the brash wit that stings when it needs to and in the eye for social irony that has...more
