Apparently the film was a source of inspiration for the Bottle Rocket short and Braverman directed the making-of doc on the disc, but beyond that knowledge I wasn't too interested. While nowhere near the same level as Anderson's subsequent films, Bottle Rocket nonetheless provides a sweet, funny look at a young director finding his voice. The perfection of Wes Anderson's first film Bottle Rocket might lie in the fact that is isn't, and wasn't necessarily intended to be, a perfect film. What could (and would) have, at best, been hailed (and/or discarded) as a cute, quirky effort instead arrived--after several years and more than a handful of detours--as a polished product, and a damn near perfect film. ... I will say this, there is a lot to like and this is definitely Wes Anderson's best film and I completely understand why fans want a Criterion Collection edition. My favorite film of Luke's to this point would have probably been the 2007 thriller Vacancy but that film doesn't compare to this one in terms of Luke's ability to act and as a movie overall. ...
