On the whole, The Blue Umbrella is a well-made film....also extracting wonderful performances from the cast.....In The Blue Umbrella , the director succeeds in conveying a message (greed can ruin the best of relationships) forcefully towards the end, when the entire village boycotts Pankaj Kapur for robbing the umbrella.....Shreya Sharma is a terrific discovery..... ... This is a great movie to debut in, and the young actress could likely get snapped up by other filmmakers soon.
But I like the new film the best, because while Makdee intrigues you and Maqbool has moments to make your jaw drop with awe, Blue Umbrella just makes you smile.

Pankaj Kapur's performance is, as usual, wonderful.
The film is narrated in a very interesting style and the story spills out gradually.
After Shweta Prasad, Shreya Sharma is yet another remarkable discovery of Bhardwaj.

The worst gift that I have ever given anyone includes a VCD of The Blue Umbrella.
I was very disappointed when I saw the movie.The film was extremely slow and each scene went on and on killing the interest of the viewer.

The actor vanishes into the umbrella-thief's role with the stealth of a well-oiled thief stealing into a room filled with priceless treasures.
The film's delicately perched theme and baby-soft mood, largely brought on by the mellow and cold textures of Dalhousie's hilly climate, are bolstered by some genuinely lucid, near-lyrical photography by Sachin Kumar Krishnan.

Now, for me, it was not only a refreshing film, but a great film - especially for any intelligent child.
Though if you have not, maybe for such a person the film would be even more enjoyable - its a completely different mindset and culture up there from rest of India.
