This miniature society is meant to reflect a worldlier one and the nature of man, a motif used before in good films by better directors.....the picture's themes become heavy-handed and, by the end, overtly preachy.....Now financial pressures appear, causing a dichotomy amid artistic integrity and fiscal liability.....Aside from being a cinematic mess, it only grossed $3.3 million domestically, his lowest directorial total to date..... ... It's an extremely well acted film, but be prepared for some gloom. The film is shot with very "white," washed out camera work to replicate the whiteness that causes the characters to lose their vision. ... Full Review

When the film isn't being manipulative and nasty, it's just plain stupid. Excellent picture and sound quality.....It's an extremely professional package all around....They entertain us with a great tale....Meirelles is content to treat it as macabre spectacle.....do many of the other bold visuals, but his flamboyance blunts the film's emotional impact..... ... Such a visually evocative film probably deserved a better overall presentation, but the interactive menus are pretty cool. Adapted by co-star Don McKellar, the story charts the societal breakdown that follows in the wake of a sudden epidemic of "white sickness," which leaves the symbolically nameless inhabitants of a symbolically nameless city groping in the dark. ... A terrific premise that translates poorly to the screen, Blindness fails because it lacks the vision to be truly eye-opening. At best two out of five for Blindness ; this film isn't for the faint-hearted, go in armed with enough patience. ... Full Review
