Mind blowing. Astounding. Astonishing. Superb. Enthralled. I could go on and put in all adjectives from the dictionary and even then I would still feel I need to say more. 1000 words isn't enough to write a review on Black Friday. Anurag Kashyap's foray into Bollywood was marred by the judiciary for more than 2 years, but finally the wait ended a few days back. And we were given the privilege to see the true potential of Indian film making. The topic was sensitive. Highly sensitive, one of the most tragic events in...more

Tell us something new! One feels like telling this to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Ever since '93, one has witnessed bomb blasts not only in films but also live on television. So much of newsprint has been spent on the bomb blasts that one has almost seen and heard what the film is trying to show. And at the end of the day, the '93 bomb blasts is hardly a slice of history that needs to be glorified or glamourized on screen. The film drags. It's really sluggish. Not that one expected item songs in it but it's like an Iranian...more

The film is based on the real life incident of the 1993 bomb blasts and the ensuing riots that shook the very foundation of Mumbai city. Watching the film is like reliving the tragedy and horror that has left a mark on every Indian in Mumbai and around the world too. The film directed by Anurag Kashyap went through a lot of problems after its making but has finally released and depicts some very emotional and heart wrenching content. The film does not try to sugar coat the truth and the director gives a voice and picture to many already...more

Just as Zaidi, Kashyap does not paint it in just black and white. Pavanâs acting is so natural that the viewers actually love to hate him in the film. Young DCP (deputy commissioner of polce) Rakesh Maira, played by Kay Kay Menon, is the main driver of the movie. Itâs an outstanding movie that balances the sentiments of both the religious communities. At no point in the film does Kashyap try to be judgmental. But Kashyap has failed in one aspect. He seems to have forgotten the fact that the bulk of the viewers would consist of those who were 10-14...more

It's human to be judgmental. To have opinions. Slam verdicts without blinking an eyelid. And then you have director Anurag Kashyap. A man possessed with the truth serum. For when you come out of 'Black Friday' what hits you the hardest is the naked honesty with which the dark story of Bombay Bomb Blasts of 1993 unfolds. Everyone knows blood on the streets can only be a gory sight. But when the bloody blasts are symbolized by the whistling silence, it unnerves in a strange unmentionable way. 'Black Friday' is not merely a film. It's a film that best of films...more

Black Friday, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is based on crime reporter Hussain Zaidi’s book by the same name. Black Friday is a movie that depicts the terror that struck Mumbai on March 12, 1993. It was a day when serial blasts ripped through Mumbai, which left an unpleasant color in minds of Mumbaiites. Though the color of the massacre has vanished, even the thought of it evokes the same fear and pain. Black Friday takes us back in time painting this ghastly incidence, the blast and the aftermath and evokes emotions of sadness and fear in us. Anurag Kashyap narrates the...more

Bole To: It's only the start of the year, and we already have the contender for the Best Film of 2007. REVIEW: Superb, Brilliant, Awesome - bring out the adjectives, this is one film which deserves it. It is so realistic that from the first frame it 'gets' to you. We were waiting for this for so long, and is anything but disappointing. BLACK FRIDAY stands up there with SATYA, when it comes to potraying the Mumbai underworld. The police interrogation scenes, the 10 min chase sequence with black humour, the landing of explosives - just about everything is done with minute attention...more
