It has a readily recognisable story, eye popping camera work that includes spectacular aerial sweeps, some humour (eg a naked Beowulf retains his modesty by fortunate [and funny] camera placement0, and lots of big scale action. That also explains the slightly plasticine-like humans, although that's unfair because in fact the characters do have lifelike characteristics, from hair and skin to moist eyes and lovely lips. ... A brutish, gruesome story, the film sacrifices its potential impact by playing it safe with the depiction of onscreen violence.....the film takes its greatest liberty, ultimately underlining its theme with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.....With these innovative approaches to the mythological saga on tap, this "Beowulf's" reality-driven approach suffers for lack of scope and questionable poetic license..... ... The motion-capture CGI animation renders many of the visuals strikingly attractive or despicably grotesque, making them fun to watch....Zemeckis fills "Beowulf" with boisterous action intermixed with long, dull stretches of tedious dialogue and scenery..... ... Full Review

In a tale very much about chickens coming home to roost as well as the son having to bear the sins of the father, Beowulf achieves moderate success. We already saw enough CGI nude Hopkins in Beowulf . The film makers announced the project at Cannes and have said the 35 million dollar film will have epic battle sequences. Hopefully Hopkins wont follow suit. ... Full Review
