Star studded cast
Jul 15, 2008

Just about every British actor then alive (except for Sean Connery) appears in this star studded film. But the real stars are the airplanes and the extensive air battle scenes. Unfortunately the musical score is not in sync with the actions,... Full review

The aerial scenes are some of the best you'll see in a war movie, no digital effects here. Historically accurate to a high degree, most people not familiar with the period and the "Britain stands alone" attitude of the time will... Full review

Yes, it's old. It's long. It's fairly tedious. I'm not sure I've ever sat through the entire film in one go. But as one of my father's favorites, this film has been one worthy of memorization. And you can't teach monkeys... Full review

Definitely a worthy successor to "Patton". The Battle of Britain is an extremely well put together story based on the true events surrounding the early years of World War II. Beginning at the Fall of France in early 1940, the story... Full review
What this film is really about, and some trivia.

This film was an attempt to deal with the crucial events of 1940, when Britain might have been invaded and oppressed by Nazi Germany. Had this succeeded then subsequent history might well have been very different, a Europe subjugated by... Full review

But two are crystal clear about the battle that turned the tide in a war that Britain seemed likely to lose. Their stories have no beginning and no end and the lack of human interaction may account for the film's failure. ... Full Review

While the video quality isn't wholly consistent from start to finish, I was frequently startled by how wonderful Battle of Britain looked in high definition, and that's the best I can hope for in any Blu-ray disc. Battle of Britain lifts its title from one of the most engaging chapters of World War II, but it feels more like a hollow spectacle than a harrowing wartime drama. ... Full Review

The Battle of Britain" quickly becomes an exercise in excess and director Guy Hamilton gains a purpose to show off the impressive air force assembled for the film and the absolutely stunning choreography created for the aerial dog fighting sequences, but any true sense of direction and worthwhile narrative are left behind. ... Unfortunately, that segment remains a rare shining moment in an otherwise fairly dull movie. Most of the movie was pretty well defined and concise. At its best, Battle of Britain looked very good, but the mix of flaws kept it from excellence. ... Full Review
