However, Burton once again bungles the climax, this time fatally so.....The chemistry between Keaton and Pfeiffer is full of spark, easily trumping the stagnant romance between Keaton and Kim Basinger in the prior film..... ... Full Review

Batman Returns remains an interesting, unique movie to watch, but it stumbles due to its bleak tone and lack of focus on the main character.
With the first film such a massive success, Burton decided to make the follow-up even more dark, demented and twisted than its predecessor.

Batman Returns offers many jolts of pleasure, yet it's also a mess-a gilded sketchbook of a movie that keeps falling open to random pages.
In the exhaustingly inventive BATMAN RETURNS (PG-13), Batman the tormented crime fighter (Michael Keaton) is back-by day he's still a fairly colorless preppie-only now he's joined by a veritable parade of Burtonesque nerds bent on revenge.
