This film came out when I was a teenager. It basically said everything I felt at that time. I really related to Natalie. I admire Susan in this film, even though her character is a tad bit crazy.... Full review

Talented screenwriter Alvin Sargent sadly cannot get any engaging ideas cooking in this artificial trifle about a wayward mother and her mature teenage daughter trying to make their lives work in Los Angeles despite mom's flighty behavior. Apart from several... Full review

Yet the film's cast and crew attack the material with so much sincerity that they nearly overcome the somewhat superficial character development Although her monotone voice-over narration is one of the film's weakest links. ... Full Review

Brief moments notwithstanding, very little of interest happens in "Anywhere but Here," hampered as it is by a syrupy soft rock score and too dispirited overall to be anything more than a wannabe sentimental wallow. While adapting accomplished fiction such as this is a lure Hollywood can never resist, some characters breathe better on the page, and that is the case here. ... Full Review
