And the subject of this film is perfect for the kinds of neurotic obsessions his best movies explored.....Rated PG for mild language and menacing action.....the animation is highly imaginative with great depth-of-field shots and many memorable visuals.....Antz" is a wonderfully entertaining animated comedy made in the spirit of some of Woody Allen's early '70s comedies.....The the actors' voices fit very nicely with the ants they play.... ... But the movie certainly means well, and its worthwhile message (teamwork is good, selfishness is bad) should penetrate the brains of kids old enough to stay in their seats and listen.
Another week, another animated movie with a scorchingly starry vocal cast.

Still, Antz remains a fairly lively and enjoyable movie.
Not that Antz fails in any significant way.
The animation doesn't seem bad, but it lacks the depth and spark that more recent offerings provide.

In fact, it has a layered story line that features jokes for both adults and children and terrific voice performances - in addition to the already incredible animation.
However, parents should be warned, "Antz" is also startlingly violent and includes a warfare scene that appears to have been ripped from "Starship Troopers" or "Saving Private Ryan" (albeit in animated form).

In fact, the scene (as well as another that involves a magnifying glass and a malicious youngster) may frighten young viewers and taints the otherwise enjoyable film, to a certain degree.

More grown-up than the later, cuddlier ''A Bug's Life,'' Antz provides, as Z concludes, a "boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy changes underlying social structure story.
Children may not get the social satire of 1988's ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit'' or the antic angst of ''Antz,'' but that's fine.
