Nick Nolte does a great job carrying a huge portion of the story. There are many minor plots involved in this movie that leads up to a bit of a disappointing ending. There was alot of dark family secrets to this... Full review

As much as I wanted to like Affliction , I found its narration by Willem Defoe (Wade's brother, whom we meet late in the film) to be off-putting and, at times, insulting. He is adrift in his life, trying but consistently failing to be a good father to Jill (Brigid Tierney, in a great performance). ... Full Review

Brigid Tierney, playing Wade's daughter, is the epitome of shrill-an effective performance in all the wrong ways (you may just route for Wade to hit her).....Climate here is the mirror image of the characters' emotional nightmares..... ... Full Review
