However, those loving bittersweet chuckles, and sharp funny characters, who never devolve into cartoon clowns, should love it.....Connell comes off as archetypal stud, romantic player, yet with Mottola's deft direction and Reynolds full bodied acting, he's never unlikeable.....complicated romantic issues.Director Mottola crafts a memorable coming of age story evocative of classics like Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Dazed and Confused..... ... However, those loving bittersweet chuckles, and sharp funny characters, who never devolve into cartoon clowns, should love it.....From writer/director Greg Mottola (Superbad) comes Adventureland , an unflinching look at a young man's struggles with family problems, career planing angst and complicated romantic issues..... ... Some may scoff at Adventureland for sailing too close to a tried and tested story formula....Adventureland makes the most of that quirkiness by populating itself with a cast of weird and wonderful characters..... ... Full Review

going in, you'll find a good movie with a strong script and solid performances, a date-night winner with a few laugh-out-loud jokes.....There's James' childhood friend Frigo, who still thinks a kick in the nuts is high comedy....But it's a simple movie, not the kind that lends itself to bloated extra discs.....The park, with its fixed ring toss games and chintzy rides, is a great setting with a built-in cast of misfits.....the acid wash and the stripey muscle shirts, and a great mix of music, from the Repla ... Scenes We Love: Adventureland....we often want to experience perfect moments like these where we don't have to do any of the work....Jesse Eisenberg isn't necessarily one of my favorite actors, thanks mostly due to the Wes Craven abomination Cursed....though this is the best scene, it's certainly not the only good one;....I remember it anyway, thanks to movies like this with a touch delicate enough to make their romantic moments understated rather than stomped across..... ... I won't go so far as to brand the film a mess....Mottola doesn't even show much interest in the park itself, refusing to let the viewer savor the bigger picture of dilapidation and carny swindle....the film's eventual realization is a crushing disappointment.....August 26th, 2009 I'm positive "Adventureland" had a breathtaking original screenplay.....though a few actors, namely Stewart and Eisenberg, fail to break the tiresome acting bells and whistles that have come to define their careers..... ... a renewed sense of optimism as the master of one's future, Adventureland is much smarter than that.....forward through the soundtrack to the appropriate scene.....But the soap opera stylings are tempered with some fine comic performances from the likes of Matt Bush as James' gloriously immature Tommy..... ... I think the film has perfect bookending songs with The Replacements "Bastards of Young" beginning the film and INXS' "Don't Change" concluding it.....Adventureland is profane but it is so in an early 20s-year-old way, not an exaggerated way.....Adventureland 's multi-faceted characters are its strongest suit and the film incorporates some disarmingly intense moments;....Perhaps Adventureland 's middling box office performance will be a blessing in disguise.....The film's pacing is slow but confident, allowi ...
