Accepted" is not, which is not a demerit on the part of Pink, since he did not write this film, and does a better-than-average job of directing material that might have worked better had he penned it, too.
Accepted" isn't the sort of movie that has at its core issues as weighty as those found in either of the aforementioned films, both of which are darkly funny and quirky, with sharp insights on the human psyche, even when they're being absurd.

Fans of American Pie or college comedies will find some laughs in Accepted, but that is about all that is there.
What the movie lacks in humor
They are joined by some veterans of comedy - namely the great Lewis Black.

Such hints that the film aims for a satirical level are misleading however - there seems to be little meaning to Accepted apart from even SHIT academics can be a success - and thus again the writers squander the idea's promising prospects.
However, the way in which the idea is handled is so lifeless and unengaging that what could have been a bundle of laughs and a decent satire is reduced to something so much less.

Most troubling " he concludes, "is the underpinning notion that young minds must be liberated from the shackles of the traditional model of higher education, which supposedly stifles self-expression, and they must be free to do their 'own thing.

With or without the booze, though, there's plenty to laugh at in "Accepted," a sloppy little film that's often as likable as it is derivative.
The actors are all fine, with Long proving that he can carry a movie (maybe not that he can carry "movies," but that he can handle this one), Black showing that his shtick can play on the big screen and Hill, as a hopelessly inept aspiring automaton, stealing many a scene.

Accepted is not the most original college-campus comedy ever made, but it does have its funny moments-albeit you may not remember them after you walk out of the theater.
The movie's saving grace is that it keeps it short

Accepted succeeds largely because of its cast and characters, but it also keeps the laughs and sly dialogue coming at a consistent clip - unlike many comedies of late.
On the surface, the plot of Accepted sounds like something you'd expect to see in one of the late episodes of Saved by the Bell .

There are some good jokes here and there, and a couple of really good performances by Robin Taylor and Jeremy Howard as a couple of the weirder students.
This of course, angers and disappoints his parents (Mark Derwin and Ann Cusack) and delights his disgustingly precocious baby sister (Hannah Marks).
