Akshay shoulders an author-backed role, carrying more of the film's emotional baggage though he is distinctly uncomfortable in the soppy-weepy scenes.
Amitabh does justice to the role but this certainly is not one of his best.

Remake potential is written all over "Aankhen," a Bollywood caper movie that tweaks the formulae of mainstream Indian cinema as well as sporting a clever plot that would translate just fine into a Western setting.
Though the quality of the original's dialogue has reportedly been watered down, there's still the strong skeleton of the play left, over which Shah has draped a full set of cinematic clothes.

Aankhen is a welcome break from the kitsch-ridden Bollywood masala flicks.
Akshay Kumar too grooves well in the role of a heartbroken man who is recuperating from the loss of his beloved (played by Bipasha Basu).

The first time I met him for Aankhen was when he was emerging out of a bad phase.
But for 12 years, Akshay struggled to get out of the image of an action hero who could not act.
Clearly, Shah is king - for his list of successful films is a long one.
