Madhuri Magic!!

"The first opening shot sets the tone of the movie… its about dance, music, art and also it is about happiness, love, culture, goodness in human beings. If you apply the first 15 min formula (word courtesy my friend, raj), you know that this movie rocks! It grips you from the first scene till the last scene. The story starts in flashback which madhuri tells to her daughter..."

"All the actors and actresses in the movie are perfectly cast. Everyone does their job best. To mention the few are Kunal Kapoor as Imraan who acts as Majnoo...more

nautch. That's Madhuri Dixit in her comeback. Chiselled, charming, chirpy and enchanting, Madhuri dances her way into the tailor made plot and takes to the screen like she has never been away. Writer Jaideep Sahni has given the gorgeous Dixit a role she can sink her teeth into. The character is rebellious and yet ravishing. A dancer returns from the US to a small conservative town years after she eloped with an American. What happened to her cross-cultural marriage is quickly swept under the carpet in one voice-over statement. She brings with her a cynical little daughter who keeps...more

This is a very crucial film for many people for various reasons. Madhuri Dixit (Dia) is based is New York. One fine day she is asked by her dying guru Makarand (Darshan Jariwala) to come back to her hometown, Shamli, to save her alma mater, Ajanta, from being demolished. She comes back home, to the place she once left, after falling in love with a National Geographic photographer. Once back, she and the caretaker of Ajanta, Doctor (Raghubir Yadav), get together to salvage the theatre. With stiff opposition from all quarters, she sets out to put up a theatrical production...more

Aaja Nachle is a tad slow and monotonous, however Madhuri does manage to liven it to an extent with her earnest performance. It is an average film which is about Madhuri and for Madhuri. The script is in keeping with the popular theme of todays times, triumph of the underdog, the deterioration of our culture due to modernism etc. However the main reason for the film being just average is its staid, placid screenplay which drags along. Madhuri tries to enliven this lackluster screenplay with her lively performance but unfortunately the film gets too monotonous and dreary. The film lacks...more

A ‘comeback’ film always holds significance. With Aaja Nachle, Madhuri Dixit, who reigned supreme, is back to the studios with the Numero Uno production house of the country. Does the actress still possess the charisma to ignite fire in water? Sadly, Aaja Nachle is below the mediocre mark and doesn’t meet the humungous expectations that you associate with the Yashraj - Madhuri combo. What’s the problem? Without a doubt, the script! What starts off as a story that seems real and identifiable becomes a fairy tale in the latter hour. Also, with a title like Aaja Nachle and the story harping...more

She's back in all her glory. The magic and the mystique is unfurled in full potency as the last Diva of Hindi cinema – Madhuri Dixit – zooms in with a tailor-made role as Dia in this film. It is impossible to separate the film from Dixit in the broader sense of the term. Not only does Madhuri give the role her all (and that's really saying something!) but Jaideep Sahni substitutes as the hero in this film that has no lead actor! is in a way Chak De! India with Indian fine arts replacing hockey. Check the similarities – the...more

Bole To: Not a bad movie for a career comeback! STORY: Dia (Madhuri) comes back to India after she hears that her 'gururji' is seriously ill. The guruji of course dies. There's this place called Ajanta where Dia has learnt dance, but Ajanta's existence is threatened by the mall culture. REVIEW: Yes, the dancing diva is back in all her glory. Madhuri makes a good comeback with her trademark things like 1000 watt smile, backless choli and latka jhatkas. The film is certainly not that great but makes for decent enough viewing. Take a bit of SWADES (returning to your roots),...more

The beauty supremo is back in her comeback avtar – Madhuri Dixit. Sadly though, Aaja Nachle does not meet the ends in an appropriate way. The film is weak at its very root level – script. The film turns out to be a pot boiler kinda tricklines, which take their own set of liberties to present things in a glamourous way. Dia is back from New York, as her mentor Makarand (Darshan Zariwala) is on the bed of death in Shamli. Now, Dia is back with a mission – to revive the Ajanta theatre, which is now under the scanner of...more

After years of being away from the town of Shamli, Dia (Madhuri Dixit) receives a call in New York. Makarand (Darshan Jariwala), her guru, is dying and she must return to Shamli - the town where she grew up, where she learnt to dance. It is an emotional return; not only has her guru passed away but the institution that he so lovingly nurtured, Ajanta theatre, is in decay and under threat of demolition because the local political authorities feel it a waste of prime real estate. With the help of Doctor (Raghuvir Yadav), the caretaker of Ajanta, Dia sets out...more
