Let's open with the good stuff: first, for the traditionalists, the movie actually follows the book fairly closely. And second, visually, the movie is absolutely incredible, even in 2-D. And Jim Carrey is actually a fairly decent voice for Scrooge. Now,... Full review

A movie's trailer arguably shows the best parts, or teasing pieces of those best parts, of the subject movie, to entice us to pay out our ten bucks to see the picture. It has been a long time since I read... Full review

A Christmas Carol – let's face it, this is one of the most powerful ever tales written, and has well withstood the test of time. With good reason, the story has been told many times both in live action and in... Full review
A mostly faithful rendering.

This is one of the most faithful renditions of the original Dickens Story that I've seen. Almost all the dialog is taken verbatim from the book and the settings mesh easily. The 3d effects are, for the most part, enjoyable (although... Full review

A Christmas Carol was very entertaining and the animation was superb. You must see it in 3D! However, kids who go and see this movie probably won't understand the majority of the dialogue and will probably get lost. It has a... Full review

Wow. This is a HUGE step up from The Polar Express, which sucked beyond any other Christmas movie. A Christmas Carol has always been a great Christmas story, and it's been redone a thousand times, but this one tops them all.... Full review
A mostly loyal, thus successful, adaptation

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is perhaps the most recognized story about the holiday within our culture and it's also one of our definitive tales of redemption regardless of season. Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol is a fairly loyal film adaptation... Full review
After directing The Polar Express in 2004, Robert Zemeckis vowed to only make 3D movies using motion-capture technology from then on, never to return to traditional live action films again. What? How could he? Moviegoers everywhere were bemused at how the... Full review
Good special effects, but what scary terrible characters. I saw this film at the premier in London and thought perhaps with Jim Carey opening the film with Colin Firth it may be good!! But, OH boy, it was horrid. The 3D... Full review

I have really been looking forward to panning this film. That's right–I don't like it. Are you surprised? If you are surprised, I'm not surprised you are surprised because you are probably one of the people who will like this film.... Full review

No one has ever blamed Zemeckis for not being able to create interesting or groundbreaking shots.....You can tell that Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth and Robin Wright Penn all give staggering performances....These two adjectives describe better than any my thoughts behind A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Robert Zemeckis' latest, motion-capture adaptation of a classic story.....To note, these shots are impeccable.....the beauty of the story have been replaced by fast-moving chases through the streets and splashy 3- ... That's the true flaw to be found in this overall beautifully lush-looking film.....His performances as all the ghost are also praise worthy especially the Ghost of Christmas Present, who's last scene is the film's pinnacle moment of greatness.....Carrey ends up delivering an excellent performance....Zemeckis fills the screen with plenty of fantastic sweeping shots and a color-popping aesthetic.....doesn't live up to its fullest potential, it remains as a highly enjoyable ghost story..... ... Disney's A Christmas Carol should be right up your alley.....The combination of animation (where the laws of physics are conveniently suspended) and 3D technology is a powerful temptation....By the time the film is done with these 3D thrills, it shows little interest in Scrooge's human encounters.....A Christmas Carol is as much a ghost story as it is a tale of holiday joy.....It's a simple morality tale, ginned up with special effects in order to more thoroughly punch home the message of repent now.... ... Overall I really enjoyed the 3D look of the film....Most of the characters suffered from the same thing -....On the flip side, I also really enjoyed the "post-mean" ending of the film -....But seriously, as I said, I love this story -....When his doorknob comes to life, that's a heck of a scare and Marley's jaw coming loose was worthy of a horror movie IMHO..... ... s version of a timeless classic, "A Christmas Carol.....s "A Christmas Carol" pay homage to the timeless tale, it pays homage to our hearts in the way a Christmas movie should.....Those with Christmas faith will find a delightful tale of a grouchy old man with no heart redeem himself....Granted, this new version was made to hype up some moderate action sequences because of its 3D animation.....However, this film at no time deviates from staying true in delivering the classic narrative..... ...
