I think 8MM is his masterpiece and certainly, its evidence....MM is brilliant and on that note, Alexander is out.....To give away more about 8MM's downward spiraling narrative would be to rob you of the picture's mesmerizing power.....lines the hearts of most men, he thinks he's better than it.... ... Its worth pondering, by the way, why narrow-gauge (8MM) film is meant to be automatically sinister (blurry, grainy, illicit).
As always, there's an unpleasant smirk hidden somewhere in his performance, though mainly here he's impassively glum, like an angel of death whos been in the job too long.

But in its own right, the new Nicolas Cage thriller "8MM" is an excellent film.....And I suppose there is no form of redemption for making an awful movie;.... ... Full Review

reminded me of a parade of far better films:....What's repulsive about 8mm isn't what it shows us;....Anti-porn zealots should love 8mm , yet another conservative movie in disguise.....Man Bites Dog , a great obscure film from 1993, probed the stark pornography of murder in ways that were truly shocking;....All Cage has going for him is his decency and determination to crack the mystery..... ... But for those who like their thrillers dark and their heroes a bit more complicated and flawed than the average shoot-without-a-blink type so prevalent in today's movies, "8MM" fills the bill.
The strength of "8MM" comes partly from Cage's understated portrayal of Welles as a family man with a genuine grimace at all the kinky things that pass for entertainment.

if it's actually one of these infamous snuff films.....It's a pretty good film....but it's still a flawed film.....Welles is intensely played by the always enjoyable Nicolas Cage.....By then, what originally seemed like a bizarre neo-film noir has become just another conventional action thriller..... ... is probably the smartest film I have seen....There is no doubt many people who will be completely turned off by this superb, unconventional motion picture....The performances are all rather memorable, with Nicolas Cage once again acting as the likable....Of course, Schumacher has been good before....is preserved, thanks to the perfect concluding scenes that are nothing short of satisfying..... ... The widow has found a disturbing 8MM film in her husband's private safe.
