This aside, 21 is a fast-paced tale that makes winning look not only easy, but a lot of fun.
Based on a true story of M.I.T. students who hit Vegas in the 90s with a winning formula, 21 takes us along for the entire ride.

I rarely go into a film wanting to dislike it....There was so much potential for this to be an excellent film, but it failed.....Therein lies the film's main flaw.....Even when I want to dislike a movie, I don't let it affect critical thinking.....It boasts quite a large cast, all of whom are flat, poorly drawn characters, some of whom even border on stereotype..... ... Fortunately, Luketic's insistence on detail and getting all the shots he needed to make interesting the world of high-stakes blackjack did not overtax the cast.
You can't be good at or bad at it - it's total luck - unless you're counting cards, which is a completely different thing altogether.

Spacey is very charismatic as the professor, but we also get to see his mean streak.
Some of the fictional plot is clearly telegraphed, but it's still exciting to see it all played out.

Dating back to 17th century France, the game of luck and skill involves trying to accumulate the highest scoring hand without exceeding 21 points.
The contemporary rock soundtrack is terrific and there's some glossy, tightly edited shots to keep you amused.
